Reconstruction of the gynecology-obstetrics department at Irpin Hospital
Reconstruction of the gynecology-obstetrics department at Irpin Hospital
Start : décembre 2022, Irpin hospital, in partnership with the Luxembourg Red Cross
CONTEXT
Since February 2022, the armed conflict in Ukraine, which began in April 2014, has intensified. Hostilities have spread to most regions of the country. The protection of civilians and critical infrastructure is a key concern. During the conflict in March 2022, the town of Irpin became a battleground throughout the Kyiv offensive.
War rape was used from the earliest days of the fighting to destroy local communities. Women are exposed to gender-based sexual violence in unsanitary conditions. In Ukraine, victims range in age from 4 to 82.
The Irpin hospital was hit by Russian bombardments and the gynecology department could no longer function properly. Pregnant women, and in particular survivors of sexual violence linked to armed conflict, no longer benefited from essential health care.
→ 550 ukrainian women supported each year
→ 200 births every year
THE PROJECT
This project includes the distribution of HIV post-exposure kits to Ukrainian Survivors, as well as material support for the reconstruction of the gynecology-obstetrics department of a hospital in Irpin, in the Kyiv region, in order to support women victims of the conflict.
Through this project, Stand Speak Rise Up! is providing better gynecological care for women living in the Irpin region, as well as for refugee women displaced by the Russian bombardments.
Thank you to Groupe Foyer, ATOZ and the L’Oréal Fund for women for their support on this project.
