Training in agriculture and sewing
Training in agriculture and sewing
Start : 2020. Kavumu, in partnership with Maison de l’espoir

CONTEXT
Since 1996, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has been the scene of repeated wars involving militias by the hundreds and the Congolese and neighboring armed forces. In this context, it is the bodies of women and girls that become battlefields: more than 30 rapes a day are recorded. In reality, the figure is much higher, because many women and girls remain silent for fear of stigmatization. For years in the DRC, women survivors of sexual violence have been fighting for their financial independence, despite the many obstacles hindering their reconstruction.
Women living in the Kavumu region are particularly vulnerable to sexual violence and its socio-economic consequences. There are many needs to accompany Survivors on the road to reparation. In addition to the need for financial autonomy, they need psychological support to overcome the effects of the trauma they have suffered.
→ 285 congolese Survivors supported
THE PROJECT
The project aims to improve the socio-economic conditions of women by providing them with training, thereby increasing their income. By working, they also gain recognition within their community. The Survivors become key agents in the development of the local community fabric.
This project aims to set up a women’s sewing workshop, not only to manufacture and market various items, but also to train groups of women in sewing and embroidery techniques. The project also aims to expand the agricultural and therapeutic activities of women survivors of sexual violence.
